Parents have Questions and Parents have Answers

You have had a hard week, Janey won't behave at school, Johnny wants a later curfew. You don't know what to do. Is anybody else out there dealing with what you are? Parents are the best people to get advice from for parents. A group of peers is a wonderful thing. We can learn from each other and help each other.

Help with a Special Needs Child

I need help with a 4yr old ADHD and bi-polar child. I keep reading about self control and have a hard with mine when she losses hers. She is on medication and I was wondering if I am wrong in this. I keep talking about this but it is a challenge in our home -- discipline especially. Some one help!!!!!

Comments:
I have a son who has been on meds for ADHD since 6 and I know trying to teach him self control is a huge issue. One thing I do that seems to help is when he loses it or is getting ready to I remove him from the situation, make him go sit quietly or send to his room to calm down. That seems to help some.

my neice was bipolar and the doctors had her on so many meds she couldn't even function. She threw up a lot and slept all the time. I think sometimes doctors would rather medicate a child than look at the root of the problem. i'm sure medication is needed in some situations- I would just be careful as to how much they want to put your child on. You know your kid better than the doctor. And while medicine seems like a quick fix in our situation it was not at all.
I beleive with a lot of attention and love kids can overcome a lot of symptoms. If small amounts of medicine help thats good too but I think a healthly loving home makes the most difference.
good luck to you and god bless!

We are a Christian family and we have 3 children. Our 2 boys have ADHD and we fought ourselves for years about medication. I do not really have any helpful advice other than do not ley ANYONE make you feel guilty about meds. My boys cannot function without them (even basic daily tasks). We live pretty much day to day and try almost everything to keep our family happy. This is a constant struggle. Good luck to you.
