Two Minutes

~ Jeri Sires

December '00

Two minutes isn't very long. You can't do much in two minutes. Not much can happen in two minutes. Not much can be accomplished in two minutes. Or can it?

Yesterday I accomplished a lot in just a few two minutes. I took the trash outside in just two minutes. I responded to an email message in just two minutes. I started a load of laundry in just two minutes. I made an important phone call in just two minutes.

You see, you can do a lot in just two minutes.

Yesterday, in two minutes, both of my sons swallowed half of a bottle of pretty pills they found. Yesterday, in two minutes, my niece fell into a swimming pool. In two minutes.

My husband said, "weren't you watching the children?"

"Yes," I cried, "I only turned my back for two minutes!"

Two minutes.

My boys are fine. My niece is lying in a hospital bed in a coma.

Two minutes turned into 4 hours of vomiting and a life hanging in the balance.

Two minutes.

Update January '01

Faith - Miracles never do cease. What the doctors say was an impossibility and what I say is the power of prayer, Leah is doing wonderfully. I want to tell you an amazing update to that story.

The doctors have encouraged her parents to get her to talk about her dreams and her feelings. Imagine in a 3-year-old's words hearing this story...

One day she was sitting on her daddy's lap. This in and of itself is a milestone because since the accident she wouldn't have anything to do with him. Finally, this day, she walked up to him and said, "Hug, Daddy!" He asked her if she was still mad at him and she said "No. But you didn't get me out of the water." She continued saying, "I fell in the water and it was really dark. I was there for a long time. Then it got really light. The light was very bright and I got warm. Then someone told me to go back."

Faith - you tell me the Lord doesn't make his presence known! There were hundreds of women praying for the recovery of this little girl. She died before she got to the hospital - the paramedics told her mother that. But, she came back (just like she was told to do). Then, the doctors said she should not have survived, but she did. They said due to the amount of time she spent under water she should have severe brain damage. She has NONE!!! She does have to re-learn a few things, but she's young and it won't be too difficult.

Thanks for asking for an update. This story is truly a miracle!
