Goals for 2005

  1. Expanding the Kid's Corner to include many more printable things and online games.

  3. Finding more author's to contribute to our content (articles and such)
  4. Finally finishing the Teaching Children How to Pray series in the Prayer Room.

We pray you will journey along with us as we go through the upcoming year and seek God's direction in the growth of www.ParentsForChrist.com

Dealing with a Troubled Child
~ author wishes to remain anonymous

In the last year me and my husband have had to adjust from our, what we called normal lives. Having a blended family already we aren't necessarily considered 'normal' anyway, but then we received custody of his two children. We were so excited the first month or so because we knew things would be perfect. Everybody always got along on visitations and we knew that would carry over with our daughter and son living with us. Then we got a wake up call.

The daughter, (I refrain from naming her for her sake) started refusing to eat and when she would eat she would throw up. This continued for quite sometime. We decided to take her to the doctor to make sure she didn't have stomach ulcers or anything else wrong with her. The doctor gave her a completely clean bill of health citing the only thing she saw wrong with the child was she was incredibly thin but said all kids go through that at some point.

My husband and I knew that we were fighting on a different playing field after the doctor's visit. We began reaching out to everybody we knew to please pray for both his son and daughter, along with the rest of the children in the family. We then found a Christian Counselor that started seeing our daughter since she is old enough to be able to talk about things. This was when we found out that she was emotionally only about 4 or 5. She is really 8. While our son is having some trouble too, he seems to be coming around with just the prayer and consistency.

As we have delved into our daughter's problems she has to main fears, 1) being rejected, she has extremely low self-esteem if any. 2) She is scared, she has been in situations that an 8yo should not ever have been in and had no way out. Upon finding this out, we started searching the Psalms and Proverbs for a verse that she could remember and that would help her. Psalms 91:11 The Lord will command his angels to take good care of you. (NIrV) This verse has helped her tremendously and it has helped me and my husband too.

Our battle is not over, we have not received a complete healing for our daughter or son yet, but it will happen. Both children are in church and active in Sunday School and the age appropriate activities for them. As they are learning about God and how Jesus loves them so much, they are coming around and becoming stable. At the time of writing this, our daughter has not thrown up in a month. Our son has remarkably come out of his shell quite a bit. The rest of the children seem to be adapting well to and are helping as much as they can.

We do know that with God, all things are possible and these two children will be healed.
