Paper Bag Luminarias

~ '

    What you need:
  • Pencil
  • Brown Paper Lunch Bags
  • Hole Punch, tack, pushpin or nail
  • Sand
  • Votive Candles or Tea Lights
    What you do:
  1. Draw a simple picture, word or symbol of Jesus' birth on the bag. (i.e. a star, manger, heart, lamb, wisemen, the word JOY)
  2. Using a hole punch or a pushpin (tack or nail) bunch holes along the drawing, leaving a little apace between each hole. With the hole punch make sure you punch all the way through. With a pushpin, tack or nail, put a piece of scrap wood or thick cardboard under the back and make sure it goes completely through both sides of the bag.
  3. Open the bag and pour about two inches of sand into the bottom. Then sink a votive candle or tea light in the center of the sand.
  4. Place the luminarias along a walk, patio or porch. Make sure an adult lights the candles.
