Top : Parents Corner : Moments For Mom : Vol. 2006 Issue 09 ~ September Vol. 2006 Issue 09 ~ September~ Elisabeth CorcoranI just got back from a four-day getaway with three of my closest friends. This was the most amount of concentrated time we’ve spent together, and I can honestly say that at the end of our weekend, I wanted it to keep going. We had a blast. We talked and laughed and cried and prayed and, truth be told, laid out. It was a great few days filled with sweet conversation and a bunch of great, new memories. A few months ago, Kevin and I got together with three couples --- those same three girlfriends and their husbands --- as sort of a going-away dinner for one of the couples who were moving. We spent well over five hours talking and laughing and praying and crying (I’m noticing a trend here). And I could’ve stayed longer had we not been all old and tired. And it got me thinking about the value of friendship. But not just any kind of friendship. Real, deep, true friendship. Where honesty reigns. Where you can be more of yourself than anywhere else. Where you can lay out the good with the bad and not think twice about being judged or about it leaving the room. I haven’t always had these kinds of friends around me. I had no one I could call my own when I was younger. And then the tide turned somewhere in my twenties and I found myself with more than I knew what to do with…but they were surface-y for the most part. And now here I am…a woman who knows who she can trust, who knows who she can count on, who knows who she can call on in a crisis, who knows who she can laugh with if that’s what she needs most. My relational world has never been more full or rich, and I am one blessed woman. Moms, if you find yourself traveling alone…first ask God the Father to become God your best Friend. Then ask him to help you create friendships that will help you understand him better and serve him more courageously and support you through whatever life may throw your way. He will answer. And you will find that you will never have to walk alone.© Elisabeth K. Corcoran, 2006 Submitted on : 27-Nov-2006 Top : Parents Corner : Moments For Mom : Vol. 2006 Issue 09 ~ September |
