Poetry Speaks to Children

~ Elise Paschen
Poetry Speaks to Children

Review

by Faith Johnson

I must say I was a little skeptical when I was contacted to review this book. My immediate reaction was that it wasn't a 'Christian' book. Then my love for poetry and classical literature said to do it, I must say I am greatful.

Poetry Speaks to Children is a unique and remarkable book. Immediately when I opened the package, my eight year old daughter saw it and wanted to read it. When she found out that it had an audio disk that read several of the poems she was thrilled.

While Brittany is an above average student and loves to read, she never showed that much interest in poetry. She literally read this book from cover to cover in one night and is always asking to use the stereo to use the CD with it.

The book includes many authors such as Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickenson, Robert Frost, J. R. R. Tolkien, Rudyard Kipling, Nikki Giovanni, and many more.

Just the book by it's self is amazing, the illustrations with the poetry are brilliant and colorful. They grasp the theme of each piece amazingly.

There are over 90 examples of magnificent poetry and 60 of them are read aloud on the accompaning CD.

Aside from thoroughly enjoying the poetry myself, my daughter absolutely loves it! She really enjoys reading along with the CD and it is helping her learn the rhythm of prose. An added addition is that we can sit down and enjoy the poetry together.

Could it be possible…that the next HOT THING for children is NOT battery powered, viewed on a screen, and has nothing to do with sex, violence, and profanity?

Kids Discovering Poetry!

Too good to be true?

Poetry Speaks to Children is catching on at schools, kids events, & families’ living rooms, and it’s setting the “Intelligent Trend” for kids, the way Baby Einstein did for infants!

“…one of the most anticipated audio-poetry releases of the fall.”
~ Wall Street Journal

"[a] wonderful new anthology [that has] broken new ground..."
~ Nancy Pearl
Librarian and Author of Book Lust and More Book Lust

“…an excellent introduction to a whole lot of poetry, from Shakespeare to Nikki Giovanni, from Kipling to Naomi Shihab Nye… Sure to please teachers, parents and children who might not yet know how much they need poetry, and how much they will love it.”
Kirkus Reviews

The reason it’s catching on?

THE EXPERIENCE IS UNIQUE: The only book of it’s kind, Poetry Speaks to Children is delightfully illustrated, and includes a CD where poems are read or sung by the poets that everyone knows, from Nikki Giovanni (Mommies), to J.R.R. Tolkien (Frodo’s Song in Bree) to Roald Dahl (The Dentist and the Crododile) to Langston Hughes (The Negro Speaks of Rivers). There’s also a poem about farting.

THE EXPERIENCE IS SHARED: It’s designed for parent and child to read, recite and sing together. Here, Poetry fulfills one of its timeless purposes: Bringing loved ones together at a heart level, and producing memories that will last a lifetime.

THE EXPERIENCE IS GROUND-BREAKING: Educators, librarians, publishing experts and parents who’ve received advanced copies all agree, this book’s content, concept and presentation will set a new trend in how children discover Poetry; one of the timeless pillars of literature.

(Oh! And it’s also a lot of FUN!)
