A Season of Thanks

~ Faith Johnson

As Thanksgiving nears I have been doing lots of reflecting. Our family has been through alot this year, as has many of those that we know. We have a lot to be thankful for. Even the people that have been victims of the natural disasters and of war.

In our family, I have seen first hand the grace of God this year. When little Benji was born we were devastated when we discovered his heart defects, but you know, God has blessed us. The right doctors were in place to catch the defects and to take care of him. His last checkup his heart looked good, there was no change for the good or bad. That is a blessing. Sure it would be great if miraculously his heart was perfect, but I believe God has something special planned for him. We have also had other things go on with some of the other children and God has been faithful.

We have had friends and family touched by hardships through the year too, and whether they see it or not we see how God has touched them. A neighbor of ours had a new baby and there were concerns with her health because her big sister has some severe heart defects. She was born perfect. My cousin lives in Ocean Springs, MS one of the places that took on some extensive hurricane damage. Their house is non-livable, but they are alive and they were able to salvage some of the things that were special to them. In addition, her boyfriend has been working through all of the restoration and they have an income where so many don't.

Of all the disasters that have happened, it doesn't take much to hear about how God provided protection for many. I heard on the news how the rescuers in Pakistan found a young girl in the rumble from the earthquakes several days later and she was virtually untouched. She will survive this disaster and be okay. Sure, not everybody has survived the disasters and there are more around the corner, but God is providing protection and peace for those left behind.

My niece lives in Davie, FL with her son. They are fine and still have a place to live, but they have no power and are limited to resources. She is confident that God will provide her what she needs. She is young, but her faith is in God where it should be.

I am very thankful for the many blessings that have occurred over the year. In March, Allie accepted Jesus into her heart and then in August, Brittany did the same. That is awesome! 2 of our children accepting Jesus as their Savior this year! God is good, ALL the time. God has protected our family, in ways that are obvious and in ways we may never know. Take a moment and look back to remember how God has blessed you and your family this year.
